BAWAAL (“we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the BAWAAL mobile application (the “App”). This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.

Our commitment to privacy

BAWAAL is designed to be anonymous and collect minimal personal data. We do not require email, phone number, or any personally identifiable information (PII) to create an account.

Information we collect

• Anonymous user ID: generated randomly at registration and stored locally on your device. It is not linked to any real-world identity.
• Device information: non-identifying details (device model, OS version) for analytics and troubleshooting.
• Usage data: anonymized, aggregated data about feature usage to improve the product.
• Content you provide: posts, comments and reactions are stored against your anonymous user ID. We do not extract personal data from this content.
• AI chat: your chat history is stored only on your device and is never stored on our servers. To generate a reply, your message is transmitted to our AI service provider (Google Gemini, with a fallback provider) under processing terms that prohibit retention for model training.

How we use your information

• To provide, maintain, and improve the App.
• To debug, monitor performance, and prevent abuse.
• To enforce our Terms of Service and community guidelines.

We do not sell your data to third parties.

Data sharing and disclosure

We do not share personal data with third parties except with service providers who help us operate the App under confidentiality terms, or when required by law (e.g. a valid subpoena or court order).

Data security

• Encryption of data at rest (AES-256-GCM for sensitive fields).
• Encryption in transit (TLS/HTTPS for all API communications).
• Regular security audits and strict access controls.

Data retention

We retain your anonymous user ID and associated content until you delete your account; deletion permanently removes server-side data. Device-local data (e.g. chat history) is removed when you clear app data or uninstall the App.

Your rights

• Request access to data associated with your anonymous user ID.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your account and all server-side data.
• Withdraw consent where applicable (this may limit functionality).

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted in the App with a revised “Last updated” date.
